Rules and Regulations

Darsa Attendance

  1. Darsa will be held daily during the Holy Month of Ramadhan, except on Thursdays and a few pre-announced dates.
  2. Darsa will start ay 7:30PM sharp and boys will have until 7:45PM to arrive, after which attendance will not be counted for that day.
  3. Boys will have to log their own attendance daily at the attendance table. Parents may help younger children log their attendance.
  4. All boys must be registered on the Darsa app in order to participate in the Darsa. For parents with no access to a smartphone, please email jtb@jaffari.org for alternative arrangements.
  5. Parents must notify organizers either in person or at jtb@jaffari.org within 24 hours after a Darsa session if attendance has not been logged correctly on the app. Any attendance issues identified after 24 hours of a Darsa session will not be rectified.
  6. Boys are expected to maintain discipline during Darsa session and observe respect towards the volunteer coordinators and teachers. Repeated or severe indiscipline may result in suspension or expulsion from Darsa.
  7. Classes are typically organized in 7 & Under, 8-12, and 13-17 age groups. Special classes will be organized for older students who require more attention in developing their recitation skills.

Year of Birth

The year of birth for Darsa classes and also competition is calculated based on English age at 1st of Month of Ramadhan. For example, if someone turns 8 on 15th May and 15th May is 1st of Ramadhan, they will be in the 8-12 age category.

Competition

Recitation
Each reciter will be asked to recite a pre-selected passage and marked by 3 judges. Each judge will mark Makharij, Fluency, Tajweed, and style.  Marks will be weighted with each of Makharij, Fluency, Tajweed worth 30 each and style will be worth 10.  Attendance worth 10 marks.  Each age category (based on year of birth) will have a winner and runner-up.

Memorization
Each reciter will be asked to recite a pre-selected surah and marked by 3 judges.  Each judge will mark Makharij, Fluency, Tajweed, and style.  Marks will be weighted at 25% for each category.  Attendance worth 10 marks.  Each age category (based on year of birth) will have a winner and runner-up.

Marks on App
Marks for boys competitions will be posted on the app by weighted category only – after Eid night.  (ie. average of all 3 judges will be taken and displayed as follows: Makharij xx/30, Tajweed: xx/30, style: xx/10, etc)
